Gala Remembers

Gala Remembers is a partnership of community groups and organisations working together to create a respectful commemoration for all those who served our country during WWI.

The 11th November 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended the hostilities of WWI. One of the deadliest conflicts in military history, with millions of military personnel and civilians dead, including the 639 men commemorated on our War Memorial.

In 2020, we updated the book to include the 117 men and 1 woman who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Second World War. In 2021, we added more details and photographs to include a more comprehensive account of the town’s WWII fallen.

Huge thanks to the Old Gala Club for their photographs, content, input and guidance.
Without their support, this book would not have been possible. Thanks also to the Energise Galashiels Trust volunteers for all their work on the project.

Gala Remembers content can also be found on YouTube, Soundcloud and Flickr.
